Dj Playero
DJ Playero was there at the very beginning.
Hailing from Puerto Rico, DJ Playero was one of the first to blend reggae and hip hop with freestyle raps in the early 90s and laid the foundations for reggaeton as we know it. Daddy Yankee allegedly coined the term while MCing on one of his early mixtapes. An undisputed legend in the history of Latin American urban music, his tracks from over 30 years ago feel like they could’ve been made yesterday. They pulse with the energy of a genre being invented in real time, capturing the restless, DIY spirit of the Puerto Rican underground.
The whole weekend at The Pit is a celebration of how much Latin American music has contributed to our scene in the last decade - what better way to close things off with the king of reggaeton himself?
