DNGDNGDNG & Phran: Sonido Underground (hybrid)
For a special commissioned 'hybrid' show in The Pit, we’re bringing together two acts at the cutting edge of LATAM dance music.
Gearing up for a fresh release on TraTraTrax, DNGDNGDNG are a duo from Peru who are shaking up dancefloors with their fiercely original take on Afroperuvian dance music, channelling inspiration from the UK continuum. Polyrhythmic bass pressure, layered percussion and synthetic textures seem to constantly shift beneath your feet. Venezuelan DJ and producer Phran explores the intersection of LATAM genres, techno, acid and dub in his spacious, jagged productions. His rough and ready sense of atmosphere finds a home in your ears very quickly.
DNGDNGDNG and Phran have previously joined forces under the moniker Sonido Underground. Their releases and hybrid sets explore the explosion of music emerging from the LATAM underground in the 90s, injecting flavours of bass and breaks into iconic motifs from a bygone era. For this commissioned performance, they’re treating us to a whole 90 minutes of new material.
We’re not sure where this dialogue will take us - and that’s exactly the point. As we edge into the final hours, DNGDNGDNG & Phran will pave the final passage into darkness.
