Our main programmer has a real soft spot for everything that JASSS puts out. No newcomer to Draaimolen, she continues to blow us away as both a DJ and a live performer with A World of Service. Hailing from northern Spain, JASSS has nurtured a sound that feels viscerally confrontational. Through a selection of music spanning industrial, IDM, electro, trance and ambient, she tells a story of rupture and transformation.
Another favourite of our core team is Tunisian producer and DJ Deena Abdelwahed. Drawing heavily from her roots, she layers North African percussion and Arabic vocal samples with techno, bass and experimental dance music. The result is a sound that feels both disobedient and cathartic.
Together, we feel like they can explore the emotional weight of their sound. In this first-time meeting, expect both disruption and synergy as they find each other to be somewhere urgent and eternal.
