The Draaimolen team is looking for a full-time Art Director to help shape and elevate the artistic direction of the festival and our year-round projects.

Draaimolen is een onafhankelijke evenementenorganisatie die de relatie uitdiept tussen kunst, natuur en muziek in Tilburg. Het hele jaar door organiseren we verschillende evenementen, met als hoogtepunt het tweedaagse Draaimolen Festival in september.

Draaimolen is niet te vergelijken met de meeste Nederlandse evenementenorganisaties. Waar veel partijen vanuit een commerciële visie handelen, werken wij zonder winstoogmerk. Onze drijfveer is het creëren van betekenisvolle en kwalitatief hoogstaande evenementen die steeds verder reiken, zowel inhoudelijk als organisatorisch.

Wat ga je doen?

Als Art Director draag je bij aan en ondersteun je de artistieke visie van het festival. Je bent hoofdverantwoordelijk voor alle kunstprojecten en stage designs op het terrein. Daarvoor werk je nauw samen met verschillende kunstenaars en begeleidt je hen met de ontwikkeling van hun installaties en projecten. Ook zet je nieuwe samenwerkingen op. Je zorgt dat alle nieuwe ideeën en dromen werkelijkheid worden door middel van schetsen, 3D tekeningen en renders. Je stelt samen met de kunstenaars lichtplannen op voor de stages. Daarnaast bewaak je de planning, beheer je de budgetten en ben je verantwoordelijk voor de technische ontwerpen van de stage designs. Je werkt intensief samen met het volledige team om alle kunstprojecten en stage designs op tijd te realiseren.

Naast de taken waar jij eindverantwoordelijkheid over draagt, werk je samen met alle andere collega’s aan het project als geheel. Denk hierbij aan het uitwerken van de grafische stijl, het opbouwen van portfolio’s van verschillende projecten en het ontwerpen van de merchandise. Je werkt mee aan de signing en aankleding; zo ben je mede verantwoordelijk voor de uitstraling van het festival.

Tot slot werk je intensief samen met de Creative Director aan de identiteit en de visuele uitstraling van het festival. Jullie zetten gezamenlijk samenwerkingen met kunstenaars op en begeleiden deze gedurende het gehele traject. De Art Director richt zich op alle fysieke kunstwerken en installaties op het festivalterrein, terwijl de Creative Director verantwoordelijk is voor alle uitingen en samenwerkingen met culturele partners en kunstenaars buiten het evenement zelf.

Bijdragen en ondersteunen van de artistieke visie van het festival
Project management van alle kunstprojecten en stage designs op onze evenementen
Begeleiden en ondersteunen van kunstenaars bij installaties en projecten
Contact onderhouden met kunstenaars en nieuwe samenwerkingen aangaan
Vertalen van creatieve ideeën naar haalbare concepten door middel van schetsen, 3D tekeningen en renders
Het laten ontwikkelen en opstellen van technische tekeningen en constructieberekeningen van de uiteindelijke ontwerpen
Bewaken van de planning, deadlines en het beheren van de budgetten
Opstellen en ontwikkelen van lichtplannen voor alle stages
De gehele uitstraling van het festival tijdens de showdagen
De grafische stijl van het festival, opbouwen van portfolio’s van verschillende projecten en het ontwerpen van de merchandise en signing

Wie ben jij?

Je hebt affiniteit met de visie en projecten van Draaimolen en wil hier een bijdrage aan leveren
Je bent creatief en hebt een sterke artistieke visie, maar je kan je ook inleven in andermans visie en deze verbinden met elkaar
Je beheerst het Adobe pakket en hebt ervaring met het gebruiken van tekentools
Je hebt aantoonbare ervaring met het aansturen van een project of team
Communicatief vaardig en in staat om kunstenaars te inspireren en begeleiden
Je bent fulltime beschikbaar en hebt de energie om de visie van het festival te dragen en nieuwe concepten en ideeën om te vormen tot realiteit
Je hebt affiniteit met de kern van Draaimolen: muziek, kunst, natuur en gemeenschap
Je beheerst de Nederlandse en/of Engelse taal in woord en geschrift
Je bent in het bezit van een autorijbewijs

Who are we?
Draaimolen is an independent event organization that deepens the relationship between art, nature and music in Tilburg. Throughout the year we host various events, with the two-day Draaimolen Festival in September as the highlight.

Draaimolen is unlike most Dutch event organizations. While many operate from a commercial mindset, we are a non-profit initiative. Our motivation is to create meaningful and high-quality events that continuously evolve, both artistically and organizationally.

What will you do?
As Art Director, you support and contribute to the artistic vision of the festival. You hold final responsibility for all art projects and stage designs on the festival grounds. You work closely with a variety of artists, guiding them through the development of their installations and projects. You maintain relationships with artists and initiate new collaborations. To ensure that new ideas and ambitions become reality, you deliver sketches, 3D designs and renders. Together with the artists, you also create lighting plans for the stages. In addition, you oversee timelines, manage budgets, and are responsible for the technical designs of all stage setups. You collaborate intensively with the entire team to ensure all art projects and stage designs are delivered on time.

Alongside your primary responsibilities, you also contribute to the project as a whole, together with all other team members. This includes developing the festival’s graphic style, building portfolios of various projects, and designing our new merchandise. You are also responsible for the festival’s visual appearance, including signage and on-site decoration.

Finally, you work closely with the Creative Director on shaping the identity and visual expression of the festival. Together, you initiate and supervise collaborations with artists throughout the entire process. The Art Director focuses on all physical artworks and installations on the festival grounds, while the Creative Director oversees all communications and collaborations with cultural partners and artists outside the event itself.

Contributing to and supporting the artistic vision of the festival

Guiding and supporting artists with their installations and projects
Maintaining contact with artists and establishing new collaborations
Translating creative ideas into feasible concepts through sketches, 3D designs, and renders
Coordinating and developing technical drawings and structural calculations for final designs
Safeguarding timelines, managing deadlines, and overseeing budgets
Developing lighting plans for all stages
Overseeing the overall visual appearance of the festival during show days
Developing the festival’s graphic style, building project portfolios, and designing our new merchandise and signage

Who are you?

You are proficient in the Adobe Suite and have experience with design and drafting tools
You have demonstrable experience in leading a project or team
You are communicative and able to inspire and guide artists
You are available full-time and have the energy to uphold the festival’s vision and turn new ideas into reality
You identify with Draaimolen’s core values: music, art, nature, and community
You are proficient in Dutch or English, both spoken and written
You hold a valid driver’s license
