With this year’s edition, we wanted to create more space for DJs specialising in ambient music, so we naturally went for the best in the genre. Chris SSG was the co-founder of the now defunct MNML SSGS, a crucial voice in the blogging world for contemporary electronic music. Some of our colleagues discovered new realms of electronic music via his blog in the past. The Australian born, Tokyo based DJ will be playing at a special corner of our festival that we’ve completely reimagined.
There’s a Japanese expression that encapsulates his approach to creating a set: ‘Ame to muchi’: candy and whip. Sometimes, you need the whip first to make the candy taste better. The beauty lies in the contrast. He balances challenging, more abstract selections with warm sections that comfort you, making the breathing space all the more nourishing.
